One person has been confirmed dead after a group of people fired gun on a group of people who were working on their farms near Anyinaman in the Krachi-Nchumuru district in the Volta region.
According to the District Police Commander of the area, DSP Frempong Gyan-Mantey, who confirmed the incident on Radio XYZ 93.1 on Tuesday, the two had gone to their farm in the morning to work when the unknown assailants shot at them, resulting in the death the yet-to-be identified man.
DSP Gyan-Mantey said another man in his 20s also sustained gun injuries at his back and had to be rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“When we got the information and rushed to the scene, one person was already dead,” he disclosed to Mugabe Maase, host of ‘Inside Politics’ on Radio XYZ.
There are reports there is a land dispute between Anyinaman and Boasiri that perhaps triggered Tuesday’s clash, which resulted in the death of one who is believed to be a resident of Anyinaman.
Police say investigations have been launched into the sad incident, but some residents say the attack is believed to have been launched by some residents of Boasiri who are fighting Anyinaman over the 3 acre piece of land near the crime scene in the area.
Following the attacks, the District Security Council (DISEC) has resolved that some schools in the area be shut down to prevent any further casualties from the long dispute in the area.
Two schools in the area, the Anyinaman DA Primary and the Anyinaman JHS have been closed down as a result of the tension.
DSP Gyan-Mantey says the students will be home until the tension calms down.
He said his men have been deployed to the area to prevent any altercations.
