Three suspected armed robbers have been shot dead in a fierce gun battle with the Manso Nkwanta Police Patrol Team on Wednesday, September 20.
Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer,ASP Juliana Obeng who confirmed the incident said the robbers numbering about five blocked the road between Manso Kensere and Adubia with logs and were about to rob commuters.
“Just as the patrol team got to the scene, they chanced on an Opel Taxi Cab with five (5) men who alighted from it. The occupants on seeing the Police opened fire on them as the personnel also returned”, ASP Juliana Obeng told journalists on Wednesday.
” Two of the robbers managed to get back into the vehicle and escaped with it, but three(3) of them died through gunshot wounds from the Police, She added.
Police, later got information that one of the robbers who managed to escape with the taxi cab “had been allegedly lynched by some unidentified persons of the community”.
A single barrel pistol used by the robbers have also been retrieved from the scene as well as three(3) live and two empty AAA Cartridges which Police say have been sent to the Manso Nkwanta Divisional Police Command for investigation.
“Bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the St. Martin’s Catholic Hospital morgue at Agroyesum in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region for identification and preservation whiles efforts are underway to get the fifth suspect arrested”, the Ashanti Regional Police Spokesperson stated.
