President Nana Akufo-Addo has replied United States President Donald Trump on his alleged use of “shithole” on the African continent along with Haiti and El Salvador.
Mr. trump on Thursday referred the inhabitants of these countries as not desirable as immigrants to the United States.
But President Akufo-Addo, who has joined the African Union and many across the globe to condemn the remarks by Mr. Trump, said the statement was “extremely unfortunate.”
“The language of US President Donald Trump that the African continent, Haiti and El Salvador are “shithole countries” is extremely unfortunate. Ghana is certainly not a “shithole country”. We will not accept such insults, even from a leader of a friendly country, no matter how powerful,” Mr. Akufo-Addo said a post on facebook.
But Mr Trump has denied using the language reported. He has been backed by two Republicans who were at the White House meeting, but Democratic Senator Dick Durbin said Mr Trump called African countries “shitholes” several times and used “racist” language.
Meanwhile, president of Senegal, Macky Sall, tweeted on Friday that he was “shocked” by Trump’s words. He said “Africa and the black race deserve the respect and consideration of all.”
