Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested two people for allegedly transporting 128 compressed slabs of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis.
The suspects, Osumanu Moro and his accomplice, Hammer Begeo had sacs containing the banned substance which they were transporting from Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region to the Ashanti Regional capital.
Power FM’s Jonathan Ofori says the two who were on board a Geo-Prizm Private Car with registration number GS 1423 – 09 driven by Osumanu Moro were arrested by a Patrol Team from the Ashanti Regional Police Command who were detailed on the Kumasi-Techiman Highway on Sunday, September 16.
Police told Power News that a search conducted by the patrol team led to the retrieval of the 128 parcels of the narcotic substance when the vehicle was intercepted at Nkwaankwaa, near Abofour from Techiman.
The suspects, who were immediately arrested were transported to the Ashanti Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters in Kumasi.
The exhibits have since been handed to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit in Kumasi as part of Police investigations.
