Asokwa: Man, Electrocuted, Found Hanging On High Voltage Tower

A man believed to be in his mid-20s was in the early hours of Sunday found dead on high voltage tower in the Ashanti Region.

The man whose name is not immediately known was found hanging on the 33,000 volts tower line near the Asokwa interchange in the Asokwa Municipality.

He was alleged to have climbed the tower to harvest some eggs laid by some birds.

At about 8:30am officials from the GNFS, the Police and a team from the Electricity Company of Ghana were working to bring down the body.

There were also reports that the deceased was a staff of Electricity Company of Ghana but that was dispelled by Frank Mensah, an engineer of the power supplying company.

He cautioned residents especially the youth not to engage in such unnecessary risks.

Meanwhile, the lifeless body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

A similar incident occurred early this year at Aboabo, also in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.

The man whose name was only given as Fatau was hanging precariously on the high lethal metal structure.

Residents believed he was part of some cable stealing syndicate whose activities often lead lead to intermittent power cuts in the community.
