The Youth of Amantin traditional area in the Brong Ahafo region, have fled the town following fears of possible raid by the Police and military to arrest suspects involved in the attack on Atebubu MCE over the weekend. The Chiefs are blaming the Municipal Chief Executive for the incident.
The MCE was leading a joint taskforce including soldiers and Policemen to clamp down on tax defaulters when some Chiefs confronted him for not giving them advance notice.
Reports say the situation became chaotic at one point when the MCE insisted on going ahead, ordering his men to forcibly lock down shops whose owners failed to honour their tax obligation.
But for the decision by security men accompanying him to fire warning shots the Atebubu Atebubu/Amantin MCE, Edward Owusu would have suffered severe physical attack.
The mob however succeeded in damaging his official vehicle a Nissan Patrol with registration number GN 2270-11.
Mawerehene for Amantin Traditional Council, Osiadeyor Nana Osei Kwasi who spoke to XYZ News said they cannot confirm if the MCE himself was physically attacked.
Mawerehene for Amantin Traditional Council, Osiadeyor Nana Osei Kwasi however said his vehicle was damaged when a mob angrily reacted to the MCE’s defiance in spite of pleas from their Chiefs.
“The young men have fled the town. They have been told a joint Police-Military team will take the community by surprise and swoop the area for suspects.
Osiadeyor Nana Osei Kwasi who speaks for the traditional countil said they will officially report the MCE, to the Brong Ahafo regional Minister to bring him to order to reduce the rising tension in the traditional area.
Attempts to reach the MCE for his reaction or side of the story has proved futile.
