A 43-year-old security guard was killed after some unknown assailants raided a Goil Petrol Station in Maaban near Barekese, the latest violent robbery targeting fuel station attendants across in the Ashanti region.
The deceased, Kwaku Abora was found dead on a mat on the top floor of the facility on Saturday, March 10, 2018.
The robbers succeeded in blowing up safes and getting away with an estimated amount of GHc 50,000.
The manager of the facility, Mr Osei Antwi, narrating the incident to XYZ News said, the suspects used a wooden ladder to climb onto where the deceased was sleeping and tied his hands and legs with rags and some stuck in his mouth.
He further revealed that the assailants who had disconnected power amid heavy rains broke into two metal safes embedded in a concrete wall and got away with the said amount.
The robbers he added, also escaped with an SB shotgun belonging to the deceased. A CCTV recorder was also taken away from his office.
Speaking to XYZ News, the visibly worried manager wants security tightened in the area.
He was also unhappy about the spate of robberies in the country particularly in the area.
“We feel unsafe in this area. Doing business has now become a danger. The police should be equipped to combat crime,” Mr Osei said.
The wife of the deceased, 33-year-old Ataa Mary could not hide her tears when the news team visited. She wants the culprits arrested.
“I am indeed heartbroken. I fainted when I heard the news. Who will take care of my kids? I am appealing to the police to speed up investigations to bring the culprits to book,” the grief-stricken widow said.
Meanwhile, the fuel station has since been shutdown whiles police begin investigations.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital(KATH) for preservation and autopsy.
He left behind three children.
