Council of Imams Condemn ‘One Corner’ Dance Students

The Council of Imams and Zongo Chiefs in the Ashanti Region has overwhelmingly condemned a video that went viral on social media showing some students of the Islamic Senior High School twerking to the ‘One Corner’ song.

The students, comprising nine females and four males, appeared in the   video which showed them dancing to the popular ‘One Corner’ song from one of their classrooms.
Reports indicate that students shared the video on their personal Facebook pages and on YouTube.

The council which described their acts as unislamic also called for a considerate punishment to meted out to the students.

The council expressed its displeasure over matter describing the actions of the students as uncultured.

Secretary to the council, Ustaz Ahmed Seidu speaking to XYZ News said: “as a council we will try to sit with the authority to get the best punishment for them. i am not advocating for them to be expelled since they have registered for the WASSCE. They should be allowed to take their examinations.”

He blamed the act on introduction of foreign moves that exposes children to foreign cultures.

Mr. Ahmed Seidu said: “All these are being done because we see foreign cultures through films introduced into our country. A teenage girl must be humbled and not expose herself to such things.”

He, however, maintains that the students have to be punished to serve as a deterrent to others.
