‘Fake Soldier’ Who Killed Bekwai Based Journalist Arrested

The Ashanti Regional Police Command says they have arrested a prime suspect in connection with the murder of a journalist with Dess FM, four months ago.

The suspect, Philip Akumaning, also known as Atta Panin, was picked up at Patrensa, near Konongo, upon a tip-off over the weekend.

Briefing journalists on Monday, August 27, Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Fred Adult Anim mentioned that the suspect who has been posing as a military officer was the ex-lover of the deceased.

Preliminary investigations,according to DCOP Fred Anim reveal that a misunderstanding ensued between the suspect and the deceased after she[the deceased] threatened to end their relationship on that faithful day.

He further mentioned that Portia was stabbed in the chest, thigh and left arm with a sharp object believed to be a knife during the attack.

A Bekwai Magistrate Court had issued a warrant for arrest of the suspect, who is unemployed after police leads pointed to him in April.

He was arraigned in court today and has since been remanded into custody.

The sharp knife used to commit the crime has since been retrieved as exhibits as part of police investigations.
