A/R: Court Orders Woman Who Allegedly Poisoned Daughter To Be Sent For Psychiatric Examination

The Offinso North District Magistrate Court at Akomadan in the Ashanti region has ordered a woman who allegedly poisoned her 3-year old daughter to death to be sent to a mental hospital.

Forty (40) year old suspect, Yaa Boatemaa, appeared before the court on Tuesday, June 19 2018 after she was picked up by police last week for the said crime.

Prosecution told the court presided over by Her Worship Florence Baah that on Friday, June 15, 2018 at about 8:40pm co-tenants of the accused, Peter Mensah and Felicia Ampomah, a sister of the accused person all of Frafraline, near Akomadan, brought the body of the deceased, 3 year-old, Abena Theresa, together with a quantity of milo in a sachet and particles suspected to be Furadan, a deadly pesticide to the Akomadan police station to lodge complain of the alleged crime.

The complainants reported that Yaa Boatemaa, who is also the biological mother of the kid allegedly poisoned a milo drink with the said pesticide and gave it the daughter to drink, resulting in her death at the Nkenkaasu Government Hospital.

In her account, a younger sister of the accused who was also a complainant told the court that her sister had a mental problem and disclosed that she often behaves strangely at home.

Adjourning the case, the presiding Judge ordered for a medical examination for the accused.

Boatemaa is to re-appear in court on July 18, by which time her medical results would have been ready to be presented to the court, reports XYZ News’ Ashanti regional correspondent, Jonathan Ofori.

The body of the kid has since been deposited at the Nkenkaasu Government Hospital for preservation and autopsy while the retained exhibits would be sent to the Ghana Standard Authority for examination as part of police investigations.
