Accra Floods: Body Of Drowned Doctor Found

Dr Aya Hayfron

The body of 32-year-old medical doctor, Aya Hayfron has been found more than 24 hours after she was swept away in her car by floods on Monday night.

Her family said the body was found on Wednesday, 20 June 2018 at the Kpeshie Lagoon in the Teshie areas.

Eye witnesses told XYZ News’ Kenneth Awotwe Darko that Dr Hayfron was returning home from choir rehearsals from her church at Kokomlemle when her Hyundai Sonata got submerged.

The medical practitioner is said to have attempted to drive through the flooded area on the ‘Naa Pra’ lagoon at Rasta, a suburb of Teshie in the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipality when the incident happened.

Reports say the flood current was too heavy that it toppled the car over the broken bridge into the lagoon at around 11 PM on Monday June 18 2018.

However, two passengers she had offered lift were rescued before Dr Hayfron drowned.

Husband to the deceased, Bernard Adjei Oppong has accused the soldiers who were deployed to rescue his wife of doing little to save her life.

“They were just there and did nothing,” he told journalists.

“When she got here, the whole place was flooded. The bridge broke and the car started moving into it. People gave her a metal bar to help her out but it was not working. I kept shouting but we couldn’t get any help,” a resident of the area told Kenneth on Tuesday.
