Some aggrieved customers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Accra have besieged the ECG Office at Circle following the difficulty in loading power on their electricity metres.
XYZ News’ Kofi Oppong Asamoah who visited the ECG office, Ring Road West, Accra behind the VIP terminal on Wednesday afternoon said scores of angry power consumers had come to the office demanding answers from officials over their inability to purchase power.
He said hundreds of power customers in some parts of Accra have not been able to recharge their prepaid meters over the last few days due to network failure.
Some of the customers also told him they had been in queues for days and no one has attended to them.
One of the customers who came from Dansoman said “I have been here for many hours. It is not that they are giving us the power for free. See, we have the money but we can’t buy power and I can’t sleep in darkness.”
One of them, a sound engineer, who stated he had been sleeping in darkness since Saturday told Kofi that “It is lies that they have been telling us. They only gave us brown envelopes to put our cards in without any assurance that we will get them.”
