Attack On Police Patrol Team-Eastern Region.

On 6/12/17 at about 16.00 hours Some Youth of Hweehwee in the Abetifi District numbering about 250 besieged the Patrol Team from “Operation Save Life” deployed between Hweehwee and Sempoa, took the patrol team hostage and thereafter caused extensive damage to two Police Patrol vehicles with registration numbers ‘VR 4651-13, Navara vehicle and an unregistered NAVARA patrol vehicle donated to Abetifi District.

The wind screen and side wind screen and rear wind screen are all damaged. According to G/Cpl John Gibo Kelly, No 413899 i/c the Patrol Team, they were driving the Nissan Navara with registration No.VR 4651-13 on Patrols. When they reached between a village called Ata Ne Ata and Sempoa, the team saw two FULANI herdsmen who flagged them to stop.  One of fulani by name Chargyi was known to be involved in “Causing Damage” case at Sempoa so the Police decided to re-arrest and escort him to Abetifi Police Station.

Upon reaching Hweehwee the youth blocked the road leading to the town and demanded  that Police hand over the fulani man to them to be lynched. The police then called for backup due to the huge number of the youth, but on seeing the additional Police presence they attacked the Policemen and the 5 vehicles with all kinds of missiles causing damage to the above mentioned vehicles. Police managed to retreat with one of the policemen sustaining injury on the left shoulder. The fulani suspect in Police custody. No arrest has been made so far.
