A 26-year-old man who is in custody for various offences is suffering from life-threatening conditions after he was brutally assaulted with a razor blade by another cell-mate.
Reports remain sketchy but XYZ News understands that an officer at the security post identified as Kofi Agyei is being held in connection with the incident.
The sickening attack which was carried out at the Mampong police cells last Sunday has angered relatives of the victim, Shadrach Dankwah.
Narrating the incident to XYZ News, sister of the victim, Vera Appiagyei said, Shadrach, 27, was allegedly handcuffed by the officer as his left hand was sliced with the blade by the yet to be identified high risk prisoner while the cop looked on.
“We had a call at 10pm Sunday, that my brother has been severely injured after the police officer subjected my brother to severe beatings. The officer later handcuffed my brother as he ordered his colleague inmate to slice him with the razor. I was so shocked to see my brother in such a terrible state,” Vera Appiagyei told XYZ News
She said her brother was rushed to the Mampong Government Hospital for treatment when his condition worsened.
The family, is thus, calling on the Inspector General of Police to investigate the matter thoroughly and also bring the said officer to book.
Police at Mampong were not available for comments when contacted.
