Scores of students of the Agogo State College in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti Region have been displaced after fire gutted their dormitory Friday night.
According to authorities of the school who spoke to myxyzonline.com, the fire started Friday night at about 8pm when students were at preps, destroying several properties belonging to them.
Most of the students affected by the fire were mainly first year students.
Items destroyed by the inferno included, trunks, food boxes, text books, beds, mattresses, bed sheets and school uniforms.
Headmaster of the school, Mr Akwasi Agyapong Ntra said some of the students noticed thick smoke billowing from one of the rooms and raised alarm.
“Every property in the room is burnt to ashes”, narrated the headmaster.
He said the situation was getting out of hand and so advised students and teachers to leave the scene due to the ferocious nature of the fire.
Mr Agyapong said personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service have begun investigations to establish the cause of the fire.
He also disclosed that National Disaster Management Organisation(NADMO), the MP and other stakeholders have come to assess the situation and have “formally reported the incident to the regional education directorate”.
No injuries or casualties have been recorded.
