Investigations have been launched into circumstances leading to the death of a pregnant mother and her unborn child at the Suntreso Government Hospital in the Ashanti Regional capital, last week.
The deceased, 30-year-old Angela Afriyie Agyemang died on 4 July 2018, after the health personnel delayed attending to her.

The husband of the deceased, Pastor Solomon Lamor-Latiff Agyemang, told journalists that he took his wife to the hospital on Tuesday, 3 July 2018 when she was in labour but could not deliver on the same day.
“She was delayed…For about two and half hours all they were telling me was they are cleaning a bed. They [nurses] said they had only one bed,” he added.
This was after the health workers demanded from him an amount if 500 cedis as a fee for ‘Doctor motivation’. He lost his wife moments after he agreed to pay the money.
The Kumasi-based pastor has since vowed to sue authorities at the facility for medical negligence.
XYZ News’ Jonathan Ofori who has been following the matter reports that a seven member committee headed by the Deputy Regional Director of Health has been constituted to look into the unfortunate death.
The Ashanti Regional Director of Health, Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang who addressed journalists after a long-held meeting with health officials, called for calm adding, the family of the deceased could test the law if they are not satisfied with investigations.
“They have the rights as far as the legal issues are concerned, but they also have to corporate with us so that while we have taking the lead with investigations based on the findings if they are not happy, they can resort to a legal action. I believe that is the better option..There is always the need to work together,” he told Jonathan.
To him, the committee will investigate the matter and come out with how similar challenges can be addressed.
