Motherhood Is Not That Difficult- Auntie Aba

Gertrude Elizabeth Mary Dadzie, a professional caterer with 30 years local and international experience on the Morning Xpress with Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe explained how easy motherhood could be, provided there was enough love and self-sacrifice.

Auntie Aba as she is popularly known is a God fearing woman with 5 children, she has led and inspired over 1000 young people with her skills and knowledge.

According to Auntie Aba, there is no one definition of mother hood but rather motherhood is an accumulation of experiences and expectation which have a combined emotional, spiritual and physical connection.

Connecting the spiritual aspect to motherhood she said, “As a mother you have to always be on your knees to pray for your children if you don’t do that your home will always be full of problems that does not mean the problem won’t come, they are there! But it makes it easier when you are on your knees everyday calling on the name of Lord on how to cater and care for them. It is always difficult even if you are prayerful mother,” she added.

She advised mothers to always seek the face of the Lord in the upbringing of their kids to make it easier not only when difficulties arise.

Auntie Aba advised mothers to build a relationship with their children. In her view when you are friends with your kids it makes their upbringing process much smoother and easier.

“My children are my friends. We talk. When there’s something I don’t like, I’ll sit you down  and I’ll tell you that Mommy doesn’t like this. This is the reason why I don’t like this…in that case, there is always peace,” she observed.

She said in that case, there is always a trust between mothers and their kids, no matter how difficult the situation may be.

She also continued by saying that the key thing in bringing up a child is instilling good moral values in them.

“Let the kids know their individual worth, their choices and what it will led them to and the accountability of things. Their integrity in the society, their virtues and all.”

“When you implant these things, nobody is saying it is going to be easy but it is worth it in the end.”

“I talk to my children. We have family counsels, we sit down and whatever challenges we have in the house, we bring it out, everybody brings their opinions and it’s not about Me! Me! Me! It’s about them because you have to come down to their level to be able to understand them. If I look at my age and say I’m going to treat them or handle them according to my age, there won’t be any peace. You really need to come down to their level and when you come down to their level, they understand you”, she said.

Gertrude Dadzie, a celebrated mother of many wished all mothers out there to be strong and continue to fight harder for their children because one day you would realize all your labour and hard work was worth it!
