Parts of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have been flooded following a four-hour downpour on Sunday afternoon.
Some of the affected areas include Aboabo, Asebi Junction and Asokore Mampong.
At Arkusah New Site, near Abuakwa, residents had moved for safety at the time myxyzonline.com’s Jonathan Ofori visited.
The situation was not different at Bronkun-Afrancho in the Afigya Kwabre District as the Nkadan River had overflown its banks. Residents were seen counting their loses as several properties had been destroyed.
The only foot bridge linking the community’s only primary school had been washed away by the heavy downpour.
Assembly member of the area, Hon Philip Sarkodie Addo in an interview with myxyzonline.com says the situation is getting out of hands.
“Our properties have been destroyed by the rains. It has washed away the only bridge which connects other adjoining communities. I don’t think students can make it to school tomorrow. Some residents have been relocated for their safety, the assembly member stated adding, ” we are yet to receive relief items from the National Disaster Management Organisation, (NADMO)
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) had stated earlier this year that Ghanaians should expect more rains in the coming days.
The agency cautioned Ghanaians to avoid places where there is fast flowing water and move from lower ground to higher places if need be.
