The five small scale miners who were arrested by police in Ashanti region for defying police orders against a demonstration organized yesterday have been granted bail.
The five were cautioned on misconduct and asked to report to the police. A docket for their case according to the police, is being processed for court. Another five who were arrested yesterday with offensive materials on them, were sent to the Asokwa Divisional Police Command and are likely to be granted bail by close of the day.
The small scale miners in the Ashanti region came together to demonstrate against the govenrment’s decision to halt mining activities in its bid to flush out illegal miners.
The protest was intended to press home their demand for a review temporary ban on their operations. They have been out of business since March this year when the six month moratorium was announced.
