Relatives Demand Answers In ‘Inexplicable’ Killing Under Police Custody

The Ashanti regional Police Command has still not commented on allegations levelled against them by a family, alleging a 38yr old man who died in their custody after he was arrested at Kenyase was tortured to death and later framed up.

The angry family told a news conference the victim, Awudu Osma, was picked up from his home on suspicion that he supplies robbers with guns for their nefarious operations and tortured the man in the presence of his wife.

They told a news conference at Asawase the suspect was taken away by the Police, who denied him access by relatives till he was reported dead.

Fuseini Abdul Rahman, said his brother left behind a pregnant wife and three children. He explained that they had done follow ups and they were not allowed to see their brother for three days until they got to the mortuary found out there were two shots in his chest. The family have since been demanding answers to the nature of his death.

Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak who is also the MP for Asawase raised the issue on the Floor of Parliament. He explained that the issue has been a big headache for him and the House has since asked the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery to brief the House on his findings.

Muntaka Mubarak, has since said he will personally follow investigations because he can not fully trust the police to do this work. He would ensure that justice is served to protect the interest of the family.
