A man suspected to be a thief was allegedly lynched by some residents of Pay All in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The gory incident occurred after residents complained of missing items during a blackout, the man believed to be in his early 30s was hit with stones and other weapons. The things he was suspected to have stolen is yet to be known.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect’s body was seen lying half naked with abrasions at a spot few meters away from the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly building, at dawn.
An eyewitness speaking to XYZ News, said he put a distress call to the police but it yielded no results.
However, it would be recalled that the government openly rebuked mob justice when Major Mahama, an army officer, met his untimely death fighting against galamsey in Denkyira Obuasi. He was lynched when he was suspected to be an armed robber.
President Akufo-Addo speaking about the incident urged Ghanaians to learn from it and refrain from such gruesome acts.
He said the barbaric act could tarnish the hard earned image of Ghana to the rest of the world.
“Ghana is a peaceful country and we should not do things that would bring the name of Ghana into disrepute. We are not like some other countries where after elections, we hear all sorts of bad news. So this should be the last time that such an incident should happen in this country,” President Akufo-Addo said.
