The Minister of State in charge of National Security, Hon. Bryan Acheampong has described as malicious the publication by the Chronicle newspaper that sought to indict him for abuse of office.
The newspaper, on Thursday August 30, 2018 published a story with a frontline caption “SECURITY MINISTER ABUSING OFFICE”. In the said publication, the paper alleged that the Abetifi Legislator had used his office to acquire “private property” to the detriment of other citizens in the Tema area.
But in a quick response to the allegations levelled against him by the paper, Mr Acheampong stated the publication was a ploy from his detractors to derail his focus and attempt to deal with the ever escalating land guard menace in the Greater Accra region, adding that his efforts to deal with the menace have been misconstrued.
“I do not own a land in Tema, neither do I know any community called Gbetsele in Tema let alone own land there. I do not have a related party interest in any land in Tema or Gbestele. Our efforts to deal with landgaurds should not be misconstrued”.
According to him, it was wicked for The Chronicle newspaper to drag his office into needless pitches to increase its sales.
He observed it was the second time the Chronicle had tried to drag his office and his humble self into controversial matters just to sell their newspaper.
He cautioned journalists not to avail themselves to be used as instruments of destruction to drag people’s hard earned reputation into the mud.
“No journalist can intimidate this quest. Journalists should not allow themselves to be used,” he concluded.
