Ghanaian Highlife musician, Kumi Guitar has revealed he is very happy with his management team and the Zylofon Music record label he is signed onto.
As the first musician who was signed onto the record Label in 2017, Kumi Guitar, who is known privately as Nana Yaw Kumi, told Agyemang Prempeh, host of Power Enertainment on Power 97.9FM on Saturday, October 20,2018, he does not regret joining Zylofon Music.
His assertions come on the back of rumours that the contract of the musicians signed onto the Zylofon Music label is to be slashed due to financial constraints, a development sources say has infuriated the artistes.
“I’m not aware of that,” he denied, adding that his contract with the firm has not been terminated.
Debunking reports that he is the darling boy of his CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1), the ‘Dream’ hit maker said he appreciates the motive behind the record label and its contribution towrads the music industry, especially when he was the one who suggested the idea of setting up a record label to promote good talents.
“I’m not given preferential treatment..NAM 1 is still my friend [and] he treats me just as he treats everybody he has signed to work with,” he disclosed.
Kumi admitted that although his CEO was his class mate while they were students at Adisadel College, that does not connote he receives preferential treatment from him.
Renowned dancehall musicians such as Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have signed onto the record label. Highlife songstress Becca, Gospel songstress Joyce Blessing are all managed under Zylofon Music.
Kumi says he is happy to have been signed to be part of the Zylofon brand and wishes it extends its branches to help more talented people in the creative industry.
Kumi Guitar has endeared himself to Ghanaians both home and in the diaspora with his creativity that comes to play in his songs.
He is the composer of the popular ‘Break into two’ track which is still appealing to lovers of highlife music. Apart from his ‘Betweener’ hit song, he has tracks like ‘Kokonsa’, ‘Brown Sugar’, ‘Problems’, and ‘victims’ which he dedicated to the victims of the Atomic gas explosion in 2017.
His debut album will be released in December this year which features Shatta Wale.
