Napo Scraps Prempeh College Board; Orders Demolition Of Illegal Structures On School’s Land

Drama unfolded at the premises of Prempeh College in Kumasi when Education Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku questioned authorities of the school over their alleged involvement of sale of parcels of lands earmarked for projects in the single sex school.

The Minister, who was not satisfied with their responses, immediately dissolved the governing board of the school. An interim management body has since been established to oversee the affairs of the school.

He also referred headmaster of the school, Mr S. K Frimpong to the Ghana Education Service for further action.

The Manhyia South lawmaker was in the school following wide spread protest by old students of the school against the illegal sale of school lands.

The Minister who described the development as unlawful said the situation could affect teaching and learning activities in such schools.

“I am dissolving the governing board of the school that decided to do this. If those who came before us decided to sell pieces of the school’s lands, would we have been able to expand it?” the Minister quizzed.

The Old Boys Association of Prempeh College has on several occasions raised concerns about the activities of encroachers on the school’s land.

Several calls have been made by parents, guardians and students of the school about the situation, which is considered a threat to the safety of students.
