The Member of Parliament for Bantama and member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Roads, Mr. Okyem Aboagye has said the metro mass is ‘bleeding’ because of mismanagement from the NDC government.
He said the Metro Mass is not generating enough revenue to maintain its operations however plans are underway to ensure continues support to its operations and get it to fully function.
“I think there has been a communication gap because the Transport committee met various stakeholders including the Ministry to plan ways to make the government support the social service it provides. It has been eight years of mismanagement under the watch of the NDC so they don’t expect us to solve it in eight months. According to the meeting we just had, the NDC owes metro mass a lot of money, they take the cars and they dont pay back the cars go bad and they dont repair them. we hope that we can fix it but not in eight months so they should give it a bit of time.
Meanwhile, hundreds of passengers have been stranded at the Metro Mass transit across the country following a sit down strike by workers of the state owned transport company demanding improved working conditions.
According to the drivers, several efforts to get management to improve their working conditions and pay their provident fund which has not been paid in years have proved futile.
They claim that over 100 MMT buses have broken down and instead of fixing them, their management has rather spent over 100, 000 Ghana cedis to purchase a new 4×4 vehicle for the personal use of the company’s MD.
Some of the staff who spoke to XYZ NEWS are demanding the immediate removal of the MD, Bennet Abaogye alleging that he is incompetent and unfit for the job.
