A youth group in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region, claiming to be the “Concerned Youth of Atiwa East constituency,” yesterday demonstrated over the alleged nomination of a new District Chief Executive of the area.
The group alleged they embarked on the peaceful demonstration at Anyinam to draw President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s attention to the nomination of someone from Atiwa East constituency as the DCE for Atiwa.
Several hundreds of residents purposed New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters clad in red attires and headgears and carrying placards to communicate their messages participated in the protestation.
According to the group, for over 16 years since the district was created, all DCEs are appointed from the Atiwa West constituency leaving Atiwa East residents to their fate and creating an impression the constituency was without competent people.
The leader of the group, Samuel Mireku, alleged some bigwigs in the NPP were attempting to impose their cronies for the position, hence making unfounded allegations of dual citizenship and fraud against the best candidate.
He cautioned that the party would become unpopular in the constituency if the President heeds to the advice of lobbyists trying to impose their interest on the people of Atiwa.
He appealed to President Akufo-Addo to take a firm decision to nominate the right person.
