“I must be frank with you that even though we are on recess; we are convening an emergency committee to as it were engage all the security operatives to see the way forward,” he told the host of the show, Kofi Oppong Asamoah.
He advised that the criminal activities were becoming more in the area and pragmatic measures needed to be put down to tackle it before it escalates into a serious situation.
“. . Crimes in recent times are becoming more sophisticated and therefore we need to be more proactive and also try to device new strategy to curb such menace,” he added.
Advising the public to see a crime in the area as bad, he said “We should look at the crime as a discipline that we need to deal with. We should do away with issues of ethnicity, political groupings and accept that those who commit crime should be penalised.”
Speaking on the Morning Xpress, Nana Owusu Sekyere, a security expert rather advocated for government to opt for dialogue instead of declaring the nomads as criminals.
“Dialogue is the way and therefore we need to engage all of them,” he said.
Commenting on getting forces to flush out the herdsmen, Nana Serkyere said the “shoot to kill” decision was not the best.
“. .What if you shoot and it is not the target? What if you shoot and creates a separate situation altogether and legal issues start to come in?” he quizzed, maintaining that such actions will defeat the purpose for which they were sent to the area.
