President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaians his administration will complete the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital’s maternity ward project which has stalled after it was started in 1974.
This is the second time the president has made such a promise to finish the health facility that has been incomplete 43 years. His first promise, to complete the project that has been ignored by successive goverments, was made in 2017 during an inspection tour of the facility.
President Akufo-Addo made the promise at the Manhyia Palace on Friday August 10, 2018 when he called on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osi Tutu II.
Nana Akufo-Addo reiterated that his will secure funding to complete the 1000 bed facility to avoid the increasing spate of maternal deaths in the Ashanti Region.
XYZ News‘ Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Jonathan Ofori reports that while commending the President, the paramount Chief of Asante Mampong, Daasebre Osei Bonsu who spoke on behalf of the Asantehene, lamented the bad nature of roads in the region and appealed to Nana Akufo-Addo to as a matter of urgency help rehabilitate the roads.
In response to the appeal, the president said the present state of Kumasi roads does not befit its status as Ghana’s second largest city and touched on the road projects his administration is undertaking to allow for easy traffic flow in Kumasi and its environs.
