A late strike from substitute Yakubu Mohammed ensured Kumasi Asante Kotoko would travel to Congo to face CARA in the second leg of their preliminary round tie in CAF Confederations Cup with a slim 1-0 victory
Kotoko could not have wished for a better start than they had as they were award a penalty, eight minutes into the game but ace striker Saddick Adams could only put it wide
The penalty miss took some steam off the porcupine warriors as the Congolese side grew into the game and eventually saw out the rest half goalless.
Chances were hard to come by as the second half began but the teeming supporters of Kotoko could smile again on the 58th minute as Kotoko won their second penalty of the day from a foul on Jackson Owusu. This time it was captain Amos Frimpong who put the ball straight into the goalkeepers arms to keep the score line goalless
On the 67th minute was Kwame Boahene was brought down to complete a hat trick of penalties on the day in what was proving to be staggering afternoon in Kumasi. Former Techiman star Baba Mahama who started as a left interior central midfielder was hoping to right the wrongs of Saddick Adams and Amos Frimpong but only managed to further disburse utter shock and disbelief to the everyone in the stadium when CARA Goalkeeper, Chansel Massa had the direction right and saved his kick which was intended for the right corner of goal.
As if the Kotoko fans had not had enough of spot kicks, Cara won themselves a penalty from an electrifying counter attack when Espoie was brought down by Wahab Adams but the fans would soon forget the agony of three penalty misses to celebrate a decisive save by the trusted Kotoko shot stopper – Felix Annan from the spot kick of the Chansel Massa who had also already saved 2 spot kicks.
The Congolese thought they had shared the spoils until referee pointed to the spot for Kotokos 4th penalty of the day and the 5th of the game in the 93rd minute.
Do not your scratch eyes. This is for real. Substitute Yakubu Mohammed-the 4th Kotoko player to take a penalty on the day- this time buried it to snatch victory for the porcupine warriors in what was the most extra ordinary game anybody could have dreamt off.

Kotoko have just made things difficult for themselves in Congo in a fortnight. It’s shocking how they could only convert 1 out 4 penalties. I will not be surprised if the pay dearly for those misses. The players have themselves to be blame for setting up an almost impossible mission in Congo – Evans Ofotsu ( RADIO XYZ)
