Highly rated Ghana boxing referee Federick Ghartey has passed on.
A reliable family source confirmed to XYZsports, the sudden demise of the Match official happened at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Monday May 28,2018.
Although the cause of his death is yet to be disclosed, our sources say it was due to a long illness which made him inactive since November 2017.
The experienced referee last officiated the Bastie Samir versus Bukom Banku bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena on 20th October 2017, which the former won by knocking out Bukom Banku in round 7.
Referee Ghartey, 59, was also a deputy Commissioner at the Customs Excise and preventive Service (CEPS).
Before his sudden demise, Mr Ghartey was the Promotions Committee Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority.
Federick Ghartey has officiated more than 70 high profile boxing fights.
