The Ghana Deaf Volleyball Association (GDVA) and Nazionale Italiana Volley Femminile Sorde are set to collaborate On Deaf Sports Development in Ghana from 30th October to 10th November, 2017.
This is the first ever international collaboration on deaf sports which will bring together executives from Ghana and delegates from Italy.
There are arrangements to hold series of meetings between the Ghana Deaf Sports Federation(GDSF), National Paralympics Committee(NPC), National Sports Authority(NSA) and Ghana National Association of the Deaf(GNAD) to identify, explore and discuss development oriented sports initiatives, as well as, exchange and future collaboration projects between the two nations.
Speaking exclusively to XYZ SPORTS, general secretary of Ghana Deaf Sports Federation Bernard Selly Kosi Kumah expresses his expectations on the collaboration.
‘‘It is about coming to share ideas how could be able to develop the team, refund and reforms to make deaf people independent in Ghana. We are expecting to use Deaf sports to penetrate the international terrain to develop deaf sports especially volleyball from the basic level to the secondary level through to the national level so that at least we could also be able to participate in both Africa and international competitions in general that’s actually our motive”, he said.
‘‘We are also looking at how we can use the sport to help Deaf people to become independent and support their family.’’
The project will also seek to bring together national athletes, create platform to identify young athletes, and discuss ways to effectively train them by encouraging their participation in sports.
