“I pray government shows more interest in boxing”, says boxing legend, Azumah Nelson.
Nelson, 59, expressed this concern after he was honored with the WBC Champion Award at the 55th WBC Convention in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The former WBC Super Featherweight title-holder was given the award due to his immense contributions in the sport.
“This award means that whatever you do, do it well and many years after, the world will continue to celebrate you. I dedicate this award to Ghana boxing. My prayer is that government will show more interest in the sport for us to raise more champions for Ghana, focusing on the younger ones,” he stated.
Other Boxing legends honoured at the WBC Convention are Evander Holyfield, Bernard Hopkins and Kostya Tszyu.
