Ghana’s Ambassador to India, Mike Ocquaye Junior has urged the Black Starlets to win the 2017 FIFA Under 17 World Cup.
Drawn in Group A alongside, India, Colombia and USA, two-time world champions, Ghana will be chasing a first global title since 1995.
Mike Ocquaye who welcomed the 2017 Under 17 AFCON runner-up at the Latit Hotel in New Delhi, expressed government’s commitment in seeing the Starlets win a third world title.
“We are expecting great things from you as well. I was with the President, who is very excited about the team, and the possibility of the team winning the cup. We believe that the team is a very good team in terms of potential. There are a lot of things that we expect from you. But we also in that vein know that you expect a lot from us”, he said.
“Because we want you to concentrate on this, we are going to try to condone you off from the public so that your management, your doctors, they will have time for you to ensure that everything is special so that you also give Ghana special results. Remember, every time we have won the tournament, we have won it with local coaches. So with Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin, let us bring the cup and give it Mr. President Akuffo Addo”
Ghana kicks off the competition this Friday against Colombia. The 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup finals will be played from 6-28 October, 2017.
