The Dean of University of Cape Coast Business School, Prof. John Gatsi has said the 2021 budget and economic statement communicates that the country is in financial crises.
In an interview with Eric Ahianyo on Morning Update TV XYZ, he said the situation was very worrying, especially as the country’s debt to GDP soars.
“If you look at the budget, clearly it communicates… that we are in a very difficult financial crises”
“And as a result of that giving the PR dimension of the budget, we shouldn’t use the term tighten your belt, sacrifice more,” the financial analyst noted.
Prof. Gatsi explained the situation is as a result of the way previous budget and policies were implemented, saying that is what has created crises.
The crisis, he suggested, calls for sacrifice of the citizens by rallying them to embrace the new taxes rather than asking Ghanaians to tighten their belt.
To him the Akufo-Addo must consider austerity measures and appeal to the people to contribute more to boost the government’s revenue.
