A/R: Krobea Asante Technical and Vocational Sch. closed down over student rampage

The Krobea Asante Technical and Vocational School at Effiduase Asokore in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region has been shut down indefinitely after students went on a rampage in the school.

The violent demonstration on Sunday, January 22, 2023, led to the destruction of some school properties.

Management of the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service in a press statement said the decision to close down the school was upon the advice of the Sekyere East District Security Council and the Ashanti Regional Security Council.

Currently, all students have been directed to vacate the campus immediately.

“The Security Services will be on hand to evacuate all the students to protect lives and properties. Parents are advised to take steps to pick up their wards from the school,” the release said. “Management of the Ghana TVET Service will keep Parents and the General Public informed on any development”.

The students on Sunday allegedly caused a power outage and broke into the storerooms of the school and scattered food items.

It is not clear what may have caused the violent student action but reports state it could be linked to their dissatisfaction with the poor performance of their predecessors in the 2022 end-of-year examination.

Meanwhile, 40 students have been invited by the Police to assist with investigations.
