The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Wa West Constituency, Supt. Peter Lanchene Toobu (Rtd), has denounced the recent manhandling of the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, DCOP Ayensu Opare Addo (Rtd), by some members of the pro New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Delta Force which is supposed to have been disbanded invaded the office of DCOP Opare Addo and arrested him at gun point.
DCOP Opare Addo who suffered brutalities at the hands of persons who identified themselves as operatives of National Security, has disclosed that he personally identified two of the operatives who arrested him, as members of the Delta Force.
“I was the one they attacked. They handcuffed me and hit me with an AK-47,” he recounted in an interview with Citi News.
However reacting to the matter on Morning Update on TV XYZ, Mr Toobu, a former police official, cautioned that the act of the NPP hoodlums was a serious attack on the integrity of the Ghana Police Service.
“What Power does these hoodlums have to besiege the premises of the of DCOP Opare Addo Rtd, Ashanti Regional Security coordinator who has served the country in various capacities to handcuff and point AK 47 at him?” he quizzed.
The former Executive Secretary to former IGP Asante Apeatu blamed the government for the development, saying it is “something which is unacceptable and thwart the image of the security service.”
He said, the threats of terrorist attack remained real in Ghana and the “miscreants” hiding behind state security to torment the citizenry must all be arrested.
He continued that, the security is the anchor of the economic progress in the country because the security ensures the peace and tranquility of every sovereign state therefore infiltrating it with such hoodlums would be catastrophic.
“These same Delta force numbering 50 sneaked into a Kumasi Circuit Court premises in chants and taunts, freed their members who had chased out the Regional Security Coordinator appointed by the president in 2017.The attack was captured on video but absolutely nothing was done to them in the right frame of the law” he recalled to host Eric Ahianyo.
He further advised the public to be wary about the activities of the “party hoodlums” and charged the citizenry to be bold to ask for a name, Number and rank when one is confronted by suspicious persons in National Security uniform.
