Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has urged electorates of the Ashanti Region to change their voting pattern in the upcoming polls and kick President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from power.
Addressing a gathering at Aboabo in the Asawase Constituency in Kumasi on Sunday, 22 November 2020, the former president accused Akufo-Addo of taking Asanteman for granted despite voting massively for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“Nana Addo takes your votes for granted and that is why he ignored you after the election in 2016”, Mr. Mahama said and explained that the refusal to complete projects of the NDC in the region is a clear indication that he does not care about Ashantis.
“He doesn’t have an automatic right to a second term so return the party that brings you progress back into power”, he urged as he listed key projects his government embarked on in the region.
Mr Mahama made a strong case for his party and said as president, he was able to put up several markets in the Ashanti Region, including the Kejetia market, which he described as “the most beautiful market in the whole of West Africa”.

The other markets Mr Mahama listed were the Tafo, Asawase and Atonsu markets.
Health and Road Sector Achievements
When leaving office, the Mahama-led administration left Asanteman four hospitals: Seiwua Hospital, Afari Military Hospital, Fomena Hospital and Bekwai Hospital. The NPP government has refused to complete some of the projects.
In an earlier tour of the Ashanti Region, Mr Mahama listed to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II some of the roads projects his government did for Asanteman.
The NDC flagbearer mentioned the Asawase, Suame, Tafo and the Kenyasi town roads to his government’s credit.
Other roads he listed included the High School Junction-Gyinase road, Bunso-High School road, Kotei-Ayiduase-Campus road, Emena-Buadi road, Apromase-Ejisu road, Bonwire Junction-Bonwire road, Aprede-Parkuso road, Tikrom Bawuro-Antoa road, Bekwai town roads, New Edubiase town roads, Bonfa Junction-Asiwa road, Bekwai-Asiwa road, Kumawu-Drobonso road, and Tepa Manfo-Subrisu-Fante road.
“These were real projects I executed for Asanteman as president”, Mahama told Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and added they were minus the CHPS Compounds, and other projects undertaken by the various district assemblies which includes schools.
He said all these projects were verifiable at their various locations unlike his opponents in the NPP who are only boasting of toilet facilities they have not been able to pay for despite the huge loans the Akufo-Addo government is securing.
