Amaarae becomes first Ghanaian to debut Billboard Hot 100 Chart

Ghanaian-American singer, songwriter, and producer Ama Serwaa Genfi, popularly known as Amaarae, has debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 weekly chart.

Amaarae’s song with Moliy titled “Sad Girlz Luv Money,” which features Kali Uchiz, earned a number 80 spot on the popular chart this week.

Billboard Chart tweeted on November 15, 2021, to announce the feat of Amaarae.

“@amaarae & @moliymusic’s “Sad Girlz Luv Money,” featuring @KALIUCHIS, debuts at No. 80 on this week’s #Hot100. It earns Amaarae and Moliy their first career entries on the chart,” the tweet read.

Amaarae herself reacted happily to her debut charting on Billboard.

She wrote: “Well, here we are.”

Amaarae, is known for her work around representation of gender and race in music.

After collaborating with local artists and putting out a few non-album singles, she released her debut 6 track EP, Passionfruit Summers in 2017.
