An eyewitness told XYZ News’ Northern regional correspondent, Isaac Nongya a truck had developed a fault on the highway which made it difficult for approaching drivers to see beyond the the point it had parked, thus leading to the collision.

The sad incident comes in less than 48 hours after 21 lives were lost in two separate accidents on the same Tamale highway.

The police is yet to brief the press on the incident.

Bloody Weekend

ASP Tanko continued that there was an accident on Saturday morning involving a tricycle loaded with firewood from Diara and a cargo truck which was also loaded with lumber from Savelugu which killed two (2).

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the rope tying the firewood got torn “and the rider lost his balance and rode into the lane of the oncoming cargo truck.”

According to ASP Tanko, one person on the tricycle, according to police, was smashed beyond recognition on the spot hence a medical officer performed the autopsy on the spot.

The other on the tricycle also died later at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

Western Region

In another lorry accident on Sunday afternoon on the Tarkwa- Bogoso highway, five lives perished when a Toyota Corolla and an oncoming vehicle also collided.

Meanwhile, a former Commander of the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department, ACP (rtd) Victor Tandoh has blamed the difficulty in curbing the menace on lapses in law enforcement.
