The Akufo-Addo government is increasing government machinery personnel by 1,570 people.
This number is contained in the 2023 budget statement.
But the Minority has kicked against it, saying it is unacceptable to increase government machinery staff to 3,681 at a time when there is an announced freeze on public sector employment.
Currently, the government is having negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout as Ghana’s debt is unsustainable.
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has announced a debt exchange programme, saying Ghana’s debt to GDP is more than 100%.
The Minority is expected to block some policies of the government, including the increment in VAT and the debt restructuring programme.
