AWW by-elections violence: street justice almost an option -Sam George

Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, has expressed disappointment in the Akufo-Addo government for failing to investigate and punish the perpetrators of the violence during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections.

Speaking to Prince Minkah on XYZ Tonight, the legislator, who suffered an abuse on that day at the Bawaleshie Presby School polling station, indicated the government’s refusal to heed to the suggestions of many civil society organisations to punish those who were involved in the dastardly act might trigger victims to seek justice on the streets.

It could be recalled that On January 31, 2019,  gun-wielding men in mask believed to be members of NPP’s Invincible Forces caused mayhem during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections when then MP for the area, Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko, died.

Several persons suffered gun wounds and the NDC withdrew from the polls.

After the Akufo-Addo government came under fire following the bloody elections and the silence of Ministers who were in charge of the country’s security, a Commission of Enquiry was set up to delve into the root causes of the violence.

But sam George said 2 years on after the government rejected about 90% of the Commission’s findings and promised to compensate the victims, none of them has been served justice despite evidence that the crime was perpetrated by acoutrements of state security.

“I appear before the commission with evidence that sways the commission to realise that our security achitecture is faulty…,” Mr George told host Prince Minkah as he exposed the government’s reluctance to compensate those that were affected.

“Mr Akufo-Addo is the single largest beneficiary of political violence…Mr Akufo-Addo thrives on political violence,” he added

He continued,”Justice will be served one way or the other. The wheels of justice grinds slow but one thing I have always said is that if justice is finally served, however it is served, let nobody in this country say that they are going to call Sam George to order, because at the end of the day they have been silent and quiet when for two years, I have filed a complaint to the police service. I have identified the individual and that individual is being paid with my tax payers money, being paid every month at National Security and the police have not acted.”
