The suspended Ayawaso North constituency chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ahmed Tahiru, has mysteriously made a U-turn on the accusations made against the Vice Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Said Sinare.
Tahiru initially alleged Mr Sinare gave him guns to be distributed to the youth to cause mayhem in the northern part of the country during the December elections.
But the lawyer for the suspended chairman Theophilus Donkor has denied the claim, explaining that the vehicle in which his client found the guns was given tohim by Mr Sinare.
In an interview with Accra-based Citi FM, Donkor recounted how Ahmed Tahiru found guns in an NDC vehicle and reported the matter to the police, saying “Monday [October 26, 2020], he tendered in those guns to the police at Kotobaabi Police Station that he has found these guns in the [NDC] car and that he doesn’t have use for them and so he handed it over to the police.”
“And I don’t know what happened and then the matter was referred to the [Accra] Regional Police Command. So he [Tahiru] gave a statement as a witness and today [Thursday] when he was cautioned on those charges too, he has given a statement to the police,” Donkor added while making a strong case that ” the charge sheet as was presented to the court today [Kaneshie District Court], never mentioned that my client ever mentioned anywhere that the guns were given to him by Alhaji Sinare” to go and cause mayhem.
” …It is no where in the facts that were presented to the court today,” Donkor said and explained his client is just a witness in the case.
Tahiru has since been suspended byu the NDC, pending further investigations into the matter while the police has withdrawn the criminal charges against Mr Sinare.
