The pollster, Ben Ephson who has a reported eighty percent (80%) success rate with his predictions based on surveys he conducts very close to general elections has made a u-turn.
He said earlier in the week when his survey results were released that His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will win the upcoming 7th December 2020 elections.
His arguments were mostly aligned with what most election observers in the country have said. This is President Nana Akufo-Addo’s second term in office and in Ghana incumbent presidents have yet to lose their second term bids which are their party’s second term in office.
Every party always had their eight-year terms since the return to constitutional rule in 1992.
In his interview on GBC however, the pollster who doubles as the Editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper said the campaign message by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2016 was successful because of their ability to hammer the NDC government’s corrupt acts.
They were very successful especially in tagging the then presidency as corrupt.
They subsequently promised to fight corruption and adopt zero tolerance for the canker. Ben Ephson said the canker has reportedly gained roots and become bigger and more pervasive under this government.
He is of the opinion that, this was NDC’s opportunity to highlight seriously the pervasive corruption under this ruling New Patriotic Party government but they have so far not done it the way they should have.
In his opinion, this was what could win them (NDC) the elections but he is unsure if they have done enough in highlighting corruption enough to the Ghanaian populace to enhance their chances.
In spite of the survey results, Mr. Ben Ephson is unsure if the allegations of corruption will come back to bite the ruling government on 7th December 2020.
