Black Stars exit 2022 world cup after losing to Uruguay

The Black Stars have exited the 2022 World Cup at the group stage after suffering a 2-0 loss to Uruguay in their final Group H game.

Two goals from Giorgian de Arrascaeta with a sterling support from Ghana’s old enemy, Luis Suárez, saw Uruguay trash Ghana.

conceded a quick-fire 2 goals to nill but Luiz Suarez’s side could not make it to the next stage.

Uruguay played well to go 2-0 up even before half-time after Ghana captain Andre Ayew made a horrendous miss from the penalty spot.

The penalty, if scored, would have put the African nation ahead in their ‘revenge’ match with Uruguay.

Uruguay on Friday protested against the penalty call after Mohammed Kudus was brought down by goalkeeper Sergio Rochet.

After VAR inspection, it was given, and Ayew stepped up to the spot – but only after Darwin Nunez stamped on it to try and scuff the turf in the Al-Janoub Stadium.

Ghana stepped up their game in the second half, with several shots on target and amazing assists from Kudus and Kofi Kyere.

As Uruguay focused on adding to their tally before the break, South Korea won against Portugal and even before the Ghana-Uruguay game ended, it was clear Uruguay won’t progress to the next level.

And Suarez who was a torn in the flesh of Black Stars cried as they exited the group stage with Ghana.

Ghana has failed to make it to the knockout stage for the second straight tournament, but with a better record than Brazil 2014, where they failed to win a single game.
