Eighteen (18) people have been confirmed dead after two buses collided at Yapei in the Northern Region, Sunday dawn.
The eighteen who perished in the collision were from both vehicles. Both drivers also died on the spot.
Police in Buipe say many passengers onboard the two buses are receiving medical attention at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
According officials, the gory crash occurred on the Tamale- Buipe Highway at around 1:42 AM when a Neoplan bus with registration number GW 2659 T, with 70 passengers on board traveling from Nalerigu to Ejura in the Ashanti region.
On reaching a section of the road at Yapei-Yipala in a curve on the Tamale- Buipe Highway he attempted to overtake a cargo car ahead of him. In the process the vehicle crushed with an incoming bus with registration number GM 5383-12.
“In the process, the vehicle crushed with an incoming bus with registration number GM 5383-12,” a Police report has disclosed.
A number of people were injured and were rushed to Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment. Eighteen people including two drivers died on the spot.
Efforts are underway to convey the dead persons to Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary for preservation and also remove the accident vehicles from the scene.
