There is a total of twenty-five (25) pregnant and breastfeeding teenagers taking part in the ongoing 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) this year in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District of the Central Region.
Out of the examination centres within the district, a report sighted by Myxyzonline.com indicated that Ajumako had seven (7) teenage pregnant candidates, Mando recorded four (4), and Bisease recorded eight (8) pregnant teenagers.
Ochiso also recorded three (3) of the cases while Sonkwa also saw three (3) pregnant teenagers sitting the exams.
When the exam began on Monday, some of the female teenage candidates were seen breastfeeding their babies in various schools.
While the exam was ongoing relatives of the teenage mothers were also seen taking care of the babies at some of the centres.
Out of the total number of 2,783 candidates who sat for the exams, 17 were absent from all the six (6) centres namely Ajumako, Ochiso, Mando, Sonkwa, Denkyira and Bisease.
The 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), commenced on Monday, November 15, 2021, across the country.
The examinations for the final year Junior High School (JHS) students are expected to end on Friday, November 19, 2021.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) says about 571, 894 candidates are taking part in the nationwide examination.
