The Ashanti Regional Police Command have arrested one Yaw Nambu Dosu, of Nambu Distilleries, for allegedly producing and distributing fake alcoholic beverages at
Ejisu, near Kumasi.
He was arrested at his residence after police received a complaint from the International Federal of Spirit Producers(I.F.SP) on Sunday, March 11,2018.
Some of the alleged fake products are Black Label, Red Label, Barcadi, Lion Aromatic Schnapps as well as Smirnoff.
The rest are Lord Jack, Lord Kingsley, Sir. Edwards, Bony Black among other assorted drinks.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, March 14, Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Ken Yeboah said about 48 boxes of the suspected harmful alcoholic drinks were retrieved from his Ejisu residence.
He said investigations established that the 48-year-old suspect had applied to the Food and Drugs Authority to be mandated to produce Lion Bitters but was denied.
Further investigations also revealed that the suspect having denied of the license rented an apartment at Ejisu, where he went into the production of both foreign and local alcoholic beverages without authorization.
According to the police chief the suspect who has been into the business for the past ten years mentioned one Mr. Kwofie who is based in Nungua, a suburb of Accra as his accomplice.
Meanwhile, the suspect is currently in police custody assisting in investigations whilst efforts are being made to arrest Mr. Kwofie.
Mr. Ken Yeboah cautioned the general public, especially distributors and retailers of alcoholic beverages, to beware of where they sourced their supplies since they were equally culpable if they sold or distributed unwholesome and unregistered products to the unsuspecting public.
