Some officers from the Abuakwa district command in the Ashanti region have gunned down a notorious robber at Atwima-Owabi in the Atwima Nwabiagya District.
The deceased has been identified as Issa Wedam.
He was arrested last Friday, together with his accomplice identified as Charles Vivor who is presently in custody.
Police believe, the robbers, who had jumped bail on narcotic cases pending at the Nkawie Circuit Court, were part of a syndicate notorious for robbery on the Esaase-Bokankye road.
Their recent operation resulted in the shooting and killing of one, Kwabena Fosuhene, a resident of Bokankye.
Police upon a search in their room retrieved two locally manufactured guns, a cutlass, assorted mobile phones, leather ammunition belt with four live cartridges, a sword and a pinch bar.
Other items included; a black backpack containing assorted ID Cards, documents belonging to financial institutions and confectioneries believed to have been seized from unsuspecting traders.
Police say while Issah Wedam who was being escorted into a waiting service vehicle after hours of search, he suddenly took to his heels and made his way through a bamboo bush at the banks of the Owabi River.
The police hurriedly opened fire and shot the suspect who sustained injury at the back.
He was recaptured and rushed to the Abuakwa Health Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
The regional command is yet to comment on the development.
