The Atewa West Youth Organizer of the ruling NPP, Ratina Kissi Ofori has urged the over 50 members and sympathizers of the ruling NPP in Akyem Asamama who have defected to the opposition NDC to reconsider their decision since the NDC is “not the best”.
Earlier reports indicated that the youth in the constituency had defected to the opposition party on grounds of economic hardship and the failure of party executives to secure them jobs when the party assumes the reigns of power.
They claim they played various roles such as polling station agents for the NPP during the 2016 elections as well as mobilizing at the grassroot level to ensure a win for the NPP with the assurance that they will be gainfully employed when the party comes into power.
They burnt T-shirts and other party gears to register their protest against the NPP.
But speaking on Radio XYZ’ Morning Show, “Ghana Te Sen” on Monday, October 15, Mr. Kissi Ofori attributed the problem to a communication gap between the executives of the party and the defectors. According to him, jobs have been secured for many of them under the Nations Builders Corps, NABCO while plans are underway to secure jobs for the others. However, the executives failed to communicate this to the aggrieved members, hence their decision.
He however urged them to reconsider their decision. “I explained to them, the best option is not NDC because 8 years of the NDC, not a single development in Akyem Asamama” he avows.
He contends that, before the NPP came into power, the NDC government had placed embargo on employment which accounts for the economic hardship brought to them.
He however assured them to exercise restraint as the next job vacancy will cater for them.
