The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Theresa Lardi Awuni, has revealed that Minority Caucus leader Haruna Iddrisu cannot be compromised by government agents to do the bidding of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“I can say on authority that nobody within the leadership of the NPP cannot bribe our leader (Mr Iddrisu). They don’t even have those resources, ” Madam Awuni told host of Tonton Sansan, Prince Minkah on TV XYZ.
“Sometimes, he will approach us with tears because of what he goes through to get us (the NDC MPs) in line. He has really worked in the interest of the poor Ghanaian,” Madam Awuni disclosed.
Her comment comes after Parliament adjourned sitting sine die yesterday without passing the controversial e-levy.
The voting process was marred by blows among the majority and minority MPs. The House had to adjourn to the next day.
Although the e-levy, which most Ghanaians and some CSOs have kicked against, hangs as Parliament resumes on January 18,2022, the Minority group has been praised for fiercely fighting the tax policy.
Theresa Awuni believes had it not been the hardwork of the minority leadership, the government side in Parliament would have had its way by approving the levy.
“When you are not closer to the leadership of our side, you wouldn’t know what really happens,” she recalled how Haruna Iddrisu would warn members to stick to directives by the party.
Madam Awuni further urged Ghanaians to support the minority side to hold the government to account always.
She also assured that the minority caucus will push for the interest of the citizens because they appreciate their daily struggles.
